Description

A number of treatable factors may contribute to cancer-related fatigue. Identifying and managing these can improve the patient's quality of life.


 

Potentially treatable conditions that may contribute to cancer-related fatigue:

(1) anxiety and/or depression

(2) disturbed sleep

(3) poor physical conditioning

(4) inadequate diet

(5) dehydration and/or electrolyte disturbances

(6) pain

(7) adverse effects of medications, especially those involving polypharmacy

(8) alcohol or substance abuse

(9) concurrent infection

(10) concurrent heart failure

(11) concurrent endocrine disorder

(12) concurrent pulmonary dysfunction

(13) other concurrent medical conditions

(14) social isolation

(15) need for assistance

(16) poor compliance with medications
