Description

Aperstein et al used a simple score to grade the severity of gastrointestinal dysfunction for a patient in the intensive care unit (ICU). Scaling is based on that of the SOFA score. The authors are from Rabin Medical Center and Afeka Tel Aviv Academic College of Engineering in Tel Aviv.


Patient selection: ICU

(1) resting energy expenditure (REE) daily balance, as difference between caloric target and the number of calories administered

(2) gastric residual volume and/or vomiting

(3) bowel movement
