Description

Quinn et al report the ICU Admission Tool for Congenital Heart Catheterization (iCATCH) for evaluating a patient with congenital heart disease. This uses catheterization risk categories and categories for pre-procedure cardiac status. The authors are from Boston Children's Hospital.

Patient selection: congenital heart disease prior to cardiac catheterization procedure

Outcome: ICU admission after the procedure

Parameters:

(1) body weight in kilograms

(2) presence of systemic illness

(3) cardiac catheterization or surgery in the past 90 days

(4) iCATCH risk category, from 1 to 5

= PRODUCT(OR for all 4 parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum product: 1

• maximum product: 454

• The higher the product the greater the risk of ICU admission.
