Diagnostic Criteria for ICU Acquired Weakness (ICUAW)

Does the patient have a generalized muscle weakness that started after the onset of a critical illness?

Is the weakness diffuse, symmetric and flaccid?

Does the weakness generally spare muscles supplied by the cranial nerves?

Have you excluded causes of generalized weakness that are not related to the critical illness?

Is the MRC sumscore < 48 on 2 or more occasions separated by more than 24 hours?

Is the patient dependent on mechanical ventilation?
