Marukian et al reported and validated an index for describing the severity of ichthyosis in a patient. A reliable method to assess the clinical severity of ichthyosis is important for judging the effect a new therapy. The authors are from Yale University.
Patient selection: ichthyosis
Sites evaluated:
(1) upper arm
(2) upper back
(3) lower leg
(4) dorsal foot
Each site is evaluated for scales and erythema.
Scale may be flat or more columner (kertoderma).
