The hypoxia-age-shock index (HASI) can be used to triage patients.
Parameters:
(1) age in years
(2) shock index
(3) oxygen saturation
shock index =
= (heart rate) / (systolic blood pressure)
hypoxia-age-shock index =
= (age) * (shock index) / (oxygen saturation) =
= (age) * (heart rate) / ((oxygen saturation) * (systolic blood pressure))
Interpretation:
• The higher the index the worse the prognosis.
• A HAPI for more normal values are less than 0.3.
• A HAPI with markedly abnormal values are around 6.
Performance:
• The area under the ROC curve was 0.76 for predicting intubation in patients with Covid-19.
• The area under the ROC curve was 0.74 for predicting ICU admission in patients with Covid-19.
