Hypothyroidism may be associated with a reversible deterioration in renal function. This may present as an unexplained deterioration in renal function or worsening of existing chronic renal disease.
Clinical features:
(1) elevation in serum urea (BUN) and creatinine
(2) clinical and laboratory evidence of hypothyroidism
(3) decline in serum urea and creatinine following replacement with thyroid hormone
(4) absence of other conditions that can explain the findings better
