Hypospermatogenesis that can result in male infertility. There is a chance of restoring fertility because mature spermatids are being formed.
In hypospermatogenesis:
(1) mature spermatids are formed but in reduced numbers (oligospermia).
(2) often a component of a mixed pattern
(3) associated with an increased number of tubules with a small diameter
Causes of hypospermatogenesis:
(1) diabetes mellitus
(2) varicocele
(3) alcohol abuse
(4) cirrhosis
(5) hyperprolactinemia
(6) undescended testis
(7) infectious orchitis
(8) toxic exposure (cyclophosphamide, methotrexate, pesticide, other)
(9) radiation exposure
