Description

A patient with Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome may develop hypophosphatemia.


Factors that may contribute to the hypophosphatemia include:

(1) prolonged vomiting

(2) respiratory alkalosis (secondary to hyperventilation)

(3) malnutrition

(4) alcohol abuse

 

Diagnosis:

(1) vomiting associated with cannabis use

(2) hypophosphatemia

(3) exclusion of other explanations for the hypophosphatemia

(4) reversal on discontinuation of cannabis use
