Description

Hydrogen gas is extremely flammable and can be explosive.

Hydrogen gas is odorless, colorless and tasteless.

Sources of hydrogen:

(1) generation from water associated with very high temperatures

(2) generation associated with electrolysis

(3) release from storage or transport as gas or liquid

Hydrogen gas tends to rise to the ceiling of an enclosed space where it can accumulate. It forms a combustible mixture in air even at low concentrations.

Ignition of hydrogen requires little energy and can be triggered by static electricity. The minimum energy required to ignite an air-hydrogen mixture is 0.02 millijoules.
