Description

Rarely an hepatic hydatid cyst can rupture with formation of a fistula to the colon.


Clinical features:

(1) The patient has hydatid cysts in the liver.

(2) A fistula is present from one of the cysts to the colon.

 

Manifestations of the fistula may include:

(1) anaerobic abscess involving the hepatic cyst

(2) hydatid cyst material passed in the stool

 

The diagnosis can be made by imaging studies with contrast.
