Description

A patient with a renal transplant has a much greater risk of developing a premalignancy or malignancy in the anogenital region. In many cases the tumors can be related to HPV-related infections.


Sites that may be affected:

(1) anus

(2) perianal skin

(3) external genitalia

(4) vagina and cervix in females

(5) urethral meatus

 

Clinical features:

(1) more often affects females

(2) may appear years after the transplant

(3) may affect a relatively young patient

(4) may show a field effect

 

Monitoring of a patient with a renal transplant should include examination of sites at risk for anogenital neoplasia.
