Most men undergoing antiandrogen therapy for prostate cancer will experience some level of hot flashes during the course of therapy.
Examples of antiandrogen drugs: leuprolide, goserelin, bicalutamide
Clinical features:
(1) history of antiandrogen therapy for prostate cancer
(2) facial flushing
(3) sweating, including night sweats
(4) sensation of feeling warm or hot
(5) may be associated with anxiety or irritability
Laboratory finding:
(1) low serum testosterone concentration
The hot flashes may vary from minimal and intermittent to severe and frequent.
Hot flashes may persist for several months after cessation of short-term (neoadjuvant) therapy.
The diagnosis may require exclusion of other causes of night sweats or FUO.
