Hopkins Falls Grading Scale

Davalos-Bichara et al reported a simple grading scale for falls in an adult.

The authors are from the Johns Hopkins University.

Parameters:

(1) fall to ground or lower level (chair, bed, etc)

(2) medical attention for fall

Fall	Medical Attention	Grade	Term
no	none	1	near fall
yes	none	2	fall
yes	received; not admitted to hospital	3	fall
yes	admitted to hospital	4	fall

where:

• The same term is used for Grades 2 to 4. The addition of an adjective (mild, moderate, severe) would reduce ambiguity.
