Description

Home invasion is a violent crime which involves a combination of separate felonies.


Features of a home invasion:

(1) use of force to make an unauthorized entry

(2) into a residence which is known by the perpetrators to be occupied

(3) motivated by robbery (valuables, drugs, money)

(4) often done by two or more perpetrators

(5) the occupants are restrained and/or held against their will

 

Victims may be:

(1) drug dealers

(2) elderly

(3) wealthy person or celebrity

 

The invasion:

(1) may involve someone familiar with the occupants in some capacity

(2) tends to have a high rate of homicide or physical injury to the residents

(3) the perpetrators usually have some form of weapon

 

Exclusion:

(1) burglary with an unintended encounter with a household member

(2) staged murder

(3) murder for hire
