Francoise et al reported a prognostic score for HIV-positive patients with histoplasmosis. The authors are from Universite de Gayane and affiliated hospitals in French Guiana.
Patient selection: HIV-positive with histoplasmosis
Parameters:
(1) ECOG performance status
(2) mental status
(3) dyspnea
(4) interstitial lung pattern on chest X-ray
(5) serum CRP in mg/L
(6) hemoglobin in g/dL
(7) platelet count per microliter

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 12
• A score >= 5 is associated with 30-day mortality with a sensitivity of 0.84 and specificity of 0.81. The negative predictive value was 0.97.
Performance:
• The area under the ROC curve is 0.88-0.93.
