Patient selection: nevus of Ota
Analysis is based on the distribution of melanocytes in the dermis.
The biopsy has to be sufficient to include the deep dermis.

Superficial types tend to be brown while deep types tend to be bluish.
Superficial types tend to be seen over the cheeks. Deep types tend to be seen over periorbital, temporal and forehead regions.
