Description

Borley et al reported a histopathologic score to describe chronic inflammation in the ileum associated with Crohn's disease. The authors are from John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

Parameters corrected for area examined:

(1) lymphoid aggregate score

(2) granuloma score

Additional parameters:

(3) depth of lymphoid aggregate penetration

(4) wall thickness score

(5) perineural chronic inflammation

(6) macrophage infiltration

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 25

• The higher the score the more severe the chronic inflammation.
