The Splendore-Hoeppli phenomenon consists of a number of histologic findings. It tends to be seen with a Th2 immunologic response and an eosinophilic host response.
Features of the Splendore-Hoeppli phenomenon:
(1) eosinophilic material
(2) form a radiating, star-like asteroid or club-shaped body
(3) around some triggering material (fungal, bacterial, parasitic, foreign body, etc)
(4) strong autofluorescence
The eosinophilic material consists of combinations of:
(1) immunoglobulin
