Hosalkar et al described the HALTAR lesion of the hip (Hip Antero-Superior Labral Tear with Avulsion of Rectus Femoris). This is comparable to the SLAP lesion of the shoulder. The authors are from Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego.
(2) posterior (reflected): groove above the rim of the acetabulum
A eccentric contraction of the rectus femoris muscle or traction from sudden knee contraction that is strong enough can result in avulsion of the rectus femoris with concomitant labral tear.
Clinical features:
(1) The typical patient is a young athlete.
(2) The patient has prolonged hip pain.
(3) The patient has impaired hip function.
Diagnosis is usually made by imaging studies of the hip showing both defects. It may also be seen at surgery.
Most patients can be managed without aggressive surgical management.
