Some patients are higher risk if they develop dengue. Identification of one or more of these features should trigger more aggressive management.
Patient selection: dengue
Patients at high-risk include:
(1) extremes of age (infants, elderly)
(2) obesity
(3) pregnant women
(4) a woman who is menstruating or who has abnormal vaginal bleeding
(5) peptic ulcer disease
(6) disease associated with hemolysis (hemoglobinopathy, G6PD deficiency)
(7) congenital heart disease
(8) current steroid therapy
(9) current NSAID therapy
(10) chronic comorbid conditions (chronic kidney disease, cirrhosis, ischemic heart disease, chronic lung disease, diabetes, etc.)
