Fan et al reported high-risk indicators in primary Sjogren's Syndrome that may be associated with central nervous system (CNS) involvement. These can help to alert the clinician to watch for neurological signs. The authors are from Xiamen Medical College and Yale University.
Patient selection: primary Sjogren's syndrome
Predictors of CNS involvement from multivariate analysis:
(1) pulmonary involvement (OR 2.5)
(2) anti-SSA positive (OR 3.6)
(3) serum C3 < 0.8 g/L (OR 2.3)
On univariate analysis hematologic and renal involvement were predictive.
The risk of CNS involvement increases with the number of risk indicators present.
