One response to an active shooter situation is to hide out.
When to consider: unable to safely escape AND a hiding spot is available.
Ideal hiding spot:
(1) A place where the shooter or the shooter's weapons cannot reach you.
(2) A place that can be secured by locking the door and barricading the door.
(3) A place where you cannot be seen.
Recommendations:
(1) Secure the door as strongly as possible.
(2) Turn off cell phone and pager.
(3) Turn off any source of noise.
(4) Turn off lights.
(5) Hide behind a large, solid item, lying down if possible.
(6) Remain quiet.
(7) Find something that can be used as a weapon.
