Hepatocellular adenomas are benign tumors due to a localized proliferation of hepatocytes.
Clinical presentations may include:
(1) abdominal pain
(2) intra-abdominal hemorrhage and collapse following acute rupture
(3) abnormal liver function tests
Risk factors for hepatocellular adenoma include:
(1) oral contraceptives or hormone replacement
(2) obesity (? increased estrogenic state)
(3) anabolic steroids
(4) glycogen storage disease
(5) Fanconi anemia
(6) aplastic anemia
Complications:
(1) malignant transformation (2-3%)
(2) acute rupture
