Description

Visceral larva migrans due to second stage larvae of Toxocara species may involve the liver. The diagnosis can be challenging in some patients.

Clinical features:

(1) fever

(2) malaise

(3) abdominal pain

(4) eosinophilia in the peripheral blood

Imaging studies may show:

(1) multiple abscesses

(2) pseudotumor

(3) migratory tracts

Biopsy of the liver shows eosinophilic necrotizing granulomas.

Complete radiological resolution of hepatic lesions does not correlate with total clinical remission (Laroia et al).
