Heat rash (miliaria rubra) can develop in some people exposed to hot environmental conditions.
Clinical features:
(1) Heat rash is erythematous skin area with multiple small milia.
(2) They appear after a person has been exposed to heat.
(3) They may be induced by wrapping an area with polyethylene plastic.
(4) They may be localized or generalized.
(5) They disappear over several days after the inciting cause is removed.
(6) The rash may be uncomfortable depending on size and irritation.
One theory is that it occurs as a result of proliferation of bacteria in and around sweat ducts with inflammation and sweat duct obstruction.
Involvement of a large skin surface can result in decreased sweating and heat accumulation, which may contribute to heat stress.
