Description

The HEAR score can be used to evaluate a patient with chest pain without use of the serum troponin test. It can help to identify a low risk patient who may not require a complex evaluation.

HEART is an acronym for history, electrocardiogram, age, risk factors and troponin. The HEAR score is the HEART score sans Troponin, along with changes to the remaining parameters.

Parameters:

(1) history

(2) ECG changes at baseline

(3) age in years

(4) number of risk factors (diabetes, hypertension, cigarette smoking, hyperlipidemia, family history) and/or history of atherosclerotic disease

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 8

• A HEAR score <= 1 indicates a very low risk for AMI.
