Description

A worker handling spices may develop a number of health problems. Most are temporary but can become significant with long-term exposures.


Pathogenesis of adverse effects:

(1) irritant qualities (like chilis)

(2) allergen

(3) fineness of dust generated while grinding spices

 

Health problems may include:

(1) allergic skin reactions

(2) hearing loss among those handling machinery

(3) cough and dyspnea due to asthma or irritant bronchitis

(4) conjunctivitis

(5) allergic rhinitis
