Hypothyroidism may be associated with headache.
Relationships between hypothyroidism and headaches:
(1) hypothyroidism-related headache (see below)
(2) worsening of migraine or tension-type headaches
Features of a hypothyroidism-related headache:
(1) objective evidence of hypothyroidism
(2) onset of a headache coincides with (within 2 months after) appearance of signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism
(3) one or more of the following symptoms: bilateral, nonpulsatile, continuous
(4) headache resolves within 2 months after effective therapy of hypothyroidism
(5) exclusion of alternative diagnosis
