Rotating ceiling fan blades can cause head injuries in small children which can be serious and even life-threatening.
Conditions of injury:
(1) while being lifted up by an adult
(2) jumping up on the upper bed of a bunk bed
(3) climbing up onto a table then standing up
(4) climbing up a ladder
Risk factors for injury:
(1) heavier, more solid blades
(2) rapid rotation
(3) low hanging fan
Types of injuries:
(1) minor abrasions
(2) lacerations
(3) skull fracture
(4) facial fracture
(5) neck injury
(6) fall injury
(7) intracranial hemorrhage(s)
