Description

Total release foggers (bug bomb) are used to widely release an insecticide into an environment. It may be used in a home as a do-it-yourself alternative to a professional exterminator. Serious illness and fatalities have been reported when not used properly.


Patient risk factors:

(1) asthma

(2) age extreme (very young and very old)

 

Usage risk factors:

(1) failure to read or understand the instructions

(2) release prior to leaving (premature release) or failure to vacate

(3) frequent or repeated use

(4) discharge near an ignition source

(5) returning too soon or without adequate ventilation

(6) direct contact include nozzle malfunction

(7) failure to wash hands and exposed skin after use

(8) failure to notify others

 

Product risk factors:

(1) insecticide included (chlorpyrifos or other organophosphate)

(2) product to structure mismatch (fogger intended for much larger structure)

 

Environmental risk factors:

(1) humidity

(2) temperature

(3) absorptive materials in the home

(4) failure to clean key surfaces afterwards
