Riding a roller coaster can be fun, but it can also be dangerous to your health.
Hazards associated with riding a roller coaster:
(1) fall injury
(2) trauma from striking something outside of the car while moving
(3) being hit by a car or caught in a cable mechanism
(4) otologic barotraumas
(5) arterial dissection (aortic, extrernal carotid artery, etc) or ruptured aneurysm
(6) cardiac arrhythmia
(7) hemorrhage (subdural hematoma, pulmonary hemorrhage, intra-ocular)
(8) lightning
(9) panic attack
(10) dislocation of medical device
Risk factors for injury:
(1) high g forces and declerations
(2) physical trauma
(3) intoxication
(4) failure of safety device or no safety device
(5) ignoring safety measures
(6) poor maintenance
(7) weather
(8) comorbid conditions (morbid obesity, heart disease, vascular disease, etc)
(9) anticoagulant or other medication
(10) thrown or falling object
(11) “fooling around”
(12) lack of inspection
