Handgrip strength may be associated with the risk of falls in an elderly woman.
Patient selection: age >= 65 years
Outcome: fall
Risk factors for falls:
(1) poor handgrip strength
(2) impaired balance
(3) asymmetry in handgrip strength
(4) other risk factors (history of falls, medications, low contrast visual acuity, slow reaction time)
The risk for falls increases with the number of risk factors present.
