Description

After a stroke the patient may develop a number of neuropsychiatric disorders including hallucinations and/or psychosis.


 

Synonym: poststroke hallucination delusion syndrome

 

Clinical features:

(1) The patient has the onset of hallucinations, delusions, paranoia and/or frank psychosis during or after an acute stroke.

(2) The stroke usually involves the right hemisphere.

(3) The psychosis cannot be explained by other cause (pre-existing psychosis, adverse drug effect, drug or alcohol abuse).
