Sasaki et al et al reported the H3B2 model for evaluating a patient with upper gastrointestinal tract bleeding. This can help to identify a high-risk patient who should receive urgent hemostatic treatment. The authors are from National Disaster Medical Center and Nihon University.
H3B2 is based on the first letter for each of the 5 parameters.
Patient selection: suspected upper GI bleeding
Parameters:
(1) hematemesis
(2) heart rate in beats per minute
(3) hemoglobin in g/dL
(4) blood pressure (systolic) in mm Hg
(5) BUN (serum) in mg/dL

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 6
• A score >= 3 indicates high risk bleeding.
Performance:
• The area under the ROC curve is 0.73.
