The female breast may show areas that histologically resemble gynecomastia in the male breast.
The change may occur as
(1) a clinical mass
(2) a microscopic finding
(3) a component of a juvenile fibroadenoma
ductal epithelial hyperplasia with flat and/or micropapillary patterns; myoepitheal hyperplasia; pseudo-angiomatous hyperplasia; periductal fibrosis with edema; variable lymphocytic infiltrate
mixture of both florid and fibrous phases
fibrous or inactive
after first year
increased collagen in the stroma; reduced vascularity and edema
