Description

The International Primary CNS Lymphoma Collaborative Group developed criteria for the therapeutic response for a patient with a primary central nervous system (CNS) lymphoma.

Parameters:

(1) imaging studies of the brain

(2) corticosteroid therapy

(3) ophthalmologic examination

(4) CSF cytology

Response categories:

(1) complete response (CR)

(2) unconfirmed complete response

(3) partial response (PR)

(4) progressive disease (PD)

(5) stable disease

Parameter

Complete Response

Unconfirmed Complete Response

enhancing lesions on imaging studies

none

none or minimal

corticosteroid therapy

none

no or yes

ophthalmologic exam

normal

minor abnormality in retinal pigment epithelium OR normal

CSF cytology

negative

negative

Parameter

Partial Response

Progressive Disease

enhancing lesions on imaging studies

>= 50% decrease in enhancement

>= 25% increase in enhancement OR new site

corticosteroid therapy

no or yes

no or yes

ophthalmologic exam

minor abnormality in retinal pigment epithelium OR normal OR decrease in infiltrate

persistent OR recurrent OR new disease

CSF cytology

persistent OR suggestive diagnosis

recurrent OR new disease

If none of the above patterns are matched, then the patient has stable disease.
