Kraemer et al used a grading system to evaluate a patient's outcome following surgical release of a burn contracture. The authors are from Louisiana State University in Shreveport.
Population: following surgery for release of a burn contracture
The evaluation should be done once the patient is stable and the level of function has become stable.
Post-Operative Function
Outcome
normal function with full range of motion
normal
less than full range but able to perform most activities (improvement in function compared to pre-operative status)
functional
unable to perform functional activities, no improvement over pre-operative status or worse
unsatisfactory
One modification would be to expand the unsatisfactory category (a little better, unchanged, worse).
