Garcia-Velasco et al developed a scheme for grading hypertrophic scar following burns in children. This can be used to monitor the patient over time. The authors are from Montreal Children's Hospital and McGill University.

where:
• "White" probably is normal for a Caucasian, but would not be for a person with a darker skin color. In the implementation I referred to being the person's normal skin color.
• The grading was done in pediatric burn patients, but could be applied to any age.
Interpretation:
• Grade 1 findings are normal or close to normal.
• The parameters are graded separately and do not appear to be combined into a single score.
