Valent et al described a grading scale for gastrointestinal symptoms associated with mastocytosis. This can help to monitor a patient over time and to assess the response to therapy. The authors are from multiple universities in North America and Europe.
Gastrointestinal symptoms:
(1) abdominal cramping
(2) diarrhea
(3) peptic ulceration (gastric, duodenal) often with GI bleeding

• Peptic ulceration is referred to as ulcus duodeni (duodenal ulcer) and ulcus ventriculi (gastric ulcer).
A Grade 4 symptom is referred to as severe adverse event (SAE).
