Fuel oil is a liquid fuel that is burned in a furnace or boiler. It is obtained in fractional distillation after lighter components have been removed.
The heavier the fuel the higher the boiling point.

Heavy industrial fuel is thick and gelatinous. It is typically used in firing a ship's boilers.
