Grades of Fox and Sebire for the Extent of Villous Inflammation (Villitis)

The extent of villous inflammation (villitis) can be graded using the scheme of Fox and Sebire.

Parameters:

(1) number of foci of villous inflammation

(2) size of the foci of villous inflammation

Number of Foci	Size in Each Focus	Grade
rare or few (1 or 2)	a few villi	1
up to 6	up to 20	2
many but still somewhat distinct	up to half of a low power microscopic field (lpf)	3
confluent, large sheets	more than half of lpf	4
