Description

Jatuworapruk et al reported the GOUT-36 prediction rule for identifying an inpatient with comorbid gout who will experience a flare of the condition. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from preventive actions. The authors are from University of Otago, Thammasat University, University of Auckland, Naresuan University and Peking University International Hospital.

Patient: hospital inpatient with comorbid gout

Parameters:

(1) gout flare prophylaxis (colchicine, NSAIDS, oral corticosteroids) prior to admission

(2) urate-lowering therapy (allopurinol, febuxostat, probenecid, benzbromarone, sulfinpyrazonoe) prior to admission

(3) serum urate in the year prior to admission in mmol/L

(4) tophus
