Many items used in daily life may be hazardous when transported in an aircraft. These should either not be transported at all or else transported according to government regulations.
Conditions during flight that may affect an item:
(1) low pressure (at high altitude) or sudden change in pressure (during ascent or descent)
(2) change in temperature
(3) turbulence
(4) compression during baggage handling
Things to be concerned about:
(1) explosives
(2) flammable items
(3) infectious agents
(4) toxic chemicals
(5) other
Explosive:
(1) spray cans
(2) fireworks
(3) flares
Flammable and/or generate heat:
(1) gasoline or other fuel
(2) strike-anywhere matches
(3) lighter fluid or lighters
(4) oil-based paints
(5) adhesives
(6) ethanol >= 70% (140 proof)
(7) nail polish or nail polish remover
(8) self-heating meals
(9) gasoline powered tool (unless completely free of oil and gasoline)
(10) anything that may generate a spark if struck
(11) any electric device that may short out or create a spark
Infectious:
(1) human or animal pathogens
(2) animals or insects that might harbor an infectious disease
Toxic:
(1) tear gas, Mace or pepper spray
(2) solvents or other chemicals
(3) poisons
(4) snakes or other venomous animals
Other:
(1) self-inflating raft or other device
(2) unsheathed knifes or other sharp implements
