glycemic load =
= (glycemic index) * (grams of carbohydrate in the food portion) / 100%
For example:
1 serving of milk is 8 ounces (227 grams). This contains 11.4 grams of carbohydrate (whole milk). The glycemic index for milk is 27.
glycemic load for one 8 ounce serving of milk =
= 11.4 * 27 / 100% =
= 3.1
