Description

Giardia lamblia may rarely attach to the gastric mucosa.


Risk factors:

(1) Helicobacter pylori chronic active gastritis

(2) small bowel colonization with Giardia

(3) atrophic gastritis or intestinal metaplasia

(4) possibly gastric carcinoma

 

The diagnosis is made by identifying trophozoites in gastric biopsies.
