Geriatric Trauma Outcome Score II (GTOS II) of Cook et al

Description

Cook et al revised the original Geriatric Trauma Outcome Score (GTOS) as the GTOS II. This can help to identify a geriatric trauma victim who may have an unfavorable outcome. The authors are from multiple institutions in the United States participating in the PALLiATE Consortium.

Patient selection: geriatric trauma victim

Outcome: unfavorable discharge (nursing home, long-term care, hospice care)

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) ISS

(3) blood product transfusion by 24 hours after admission

= (age) + (0.71 * (ISS)) + (points for transfusion)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: determined by minimum age (for geriatric group 65 years)

• maximum score: > 200

= 1 / (1 + EXP((-1) * X))
