Description

Zhao et al developed the Geriatric Trauma Outcome (GTO) score to evaluate geriatric patients who have traumatic injury. The authors are from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.

Patient selection: age >= 65 years with trauma

Outcome: mortality

Predictive model: logistic regression

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) Injury Severity Score (ISS, with maximum 75)

(3) transfusion of packed red blood cells (PRBCs)

GTO score =

= (age in years) + (2.5 * (ISS)) + (22 * (1 if transfused, 0 if not)

X =

= (0.03912 * (GTO score)) - 6.9115

probability of mortality =

= 1 / (1 + EXP((-1) * X))

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve was 0.82.
