Entamoeba histolytica may involve male or female genital organs.
Exposure history:
(1) A male with penile involvement may engage in anal intercourse.
(2) A woman with genital involvement may have intercourse with a male who has engaged in anal intercourse (one level of separation).
(3) A male who has not engaged in anal intercourse may develop penile involvement after intercourse with a woman with genital involvement (two levels of separation).
(4) The patient may have evidence of enteric amebiasis without a sexual exposure.
The penis is involved in the male.
The labia, vagina, cervix or other genital sites (uterus, fallopian tube) may be involved in a woman.
The genital lesion:
(1) is ulcerated
(2) may mimic a squamous cell carcinoma
(3) often is associated with a foul-smelling discharge
(4) neglected cases may develop necrotizing cellulitis
The patient may have dysuria.
