Garre's sclerosing osteomyelitis is a type of primary chronic nonsuppurative osteomyelitis.
Features:
(1) periosteal new bone formation with local thickening (periostitis ossificans)
(2) microscopically there is periosteal sclerosis and peripheral bone neoformation
(3) this results in pain, swelling and asymmetry, often with an insidious onset
It may be reactive to local irritation or infection.
